How to transfer an existing number

If you already have a WhatsApp number outside of Infobip and want to use it with AskHandle, you can transfer it through the Import my number option.

This process is completed through Facebook, where you will select the WhatsApp Business account and number you want to connect.

Important: This option is only for existing numbers that are not in an Infobip account.
If your number is already in Infobip, use the Infobip account connection option instead.

When to use this option

Use Import my number if:

  • You already own the phone number.
  • The number is not managed through Infobip.
  • You want to connect that number to a WhatsApp communication channel in AskHandle.
  • You already have, or want to use, an existing WhatsApp Business account in Facebook.

How to start the transfer

You can get to the phone number setup area in either of these ways:

  1. From the top-right menu in your portal, go to WhatsApp Numbers.
  2. Or, if you already added a WhatsApp node to your flow:
    • Click the WhatsApp node.
    • Click Go to phone numbers.

Both options take you to the same phone number section.

Transfer your existing number

  1. In the phone number section, find the Import my number option.
  2. Click Import my number.
  3. A Facebook setup window will open.
  4. Follow the steps in the Facebook window.
  5. When Facebook asks you to select a WhatsApp Business account, choose the existing WhatsApp Business account connected to the number you want to transfer.
  6. Continue through the Facebook setup steps.
  7. When asked to verify the phone number, choose the available verification method.
  8. Enter the verification code when you receive it.
  9. Continue through the remaining Facebook confirmation screens.
  10. Click Finish when Facebook asks you to complete the setup.

What happens after Facebook setup is complete

After you finish the Facebook steps, AskHandle will continue processing the connection in the background.

You may see an AskHandle setup window showing several setup steps. This usually takes about one or two minutes.

Do not close this window until the setup is fully finished.

Once the AskHandle setup is complete, the number is connected and ready to use.

Assign the number to an AI agent or flow

After the number is transferred and activated, assign it to the AI agent or flow where you want to use it.

To do this:

  1. Go to the phone number section.
  2. Find the transferred number.
  3. Select the AI agent or flow you want to connect it to.
  4. Click Assign.

Once assigned, incoming WhatsApp messages to that number will be handled by the selected AI agent or flow.

Notes

  • The number must be able to receive the verification code during setup.
  • If the number is a landline, choose phone call verification when available.
  • Keep the Facebook setup window open until the process is complete.
  • Keep the AskHandle setup window open until AskHandle finishes processing the connection.
  • If your number is in Infobip, do not use this route. Use the Infobip account option instead.
