How many WhatsApp numbers can I connect with my Facebook account?

When setting up WhatsApp through the API, you will need a Facebook account to log in and manage the setup. However, the number of WhatsApp phone numbers you can connect is not mainly based on the age of your personal Facebook account. It is based on the Meta Business Portfolio connected to your WhatsApp setup.
If your Meta Business Portfolio is new, you may need to start with one WhatsApp number first. In some cases, Meta may allow more than one number, but new or unverified business portfolios usually have limited phone-number access at the beginning.
Why does this happen?
Meta applies WhatsApp API phone-number limits at the business portfolio level. This means that even if your personal Facebook account is old, trusted, and active, a newly created Meta Business Portfolio may still be treated as a new business account.
Because of this, a business that creates a new Meta Business Portfolio during WhatsApp setup may not be able to immediately connect many WhatsApp numbers.
Can I connect more than one WhatsApp number?
Yes, but it depends on your Meta Business Portfolio status and Meta’s account limits.
New business portfolios often start with limited access. You may be able to connect one number first and then gradually add more numbers as the business account becomes more established.
In general, higher limits may require one or more of the following:
- Completing Meta Business Verification
- Keeping the WhatsApp account in good standing
- Maintaining good message quality
- Building compliant usage over time
- Receiving approval from Meta for higher limits
Is the limit connected to my personal Facebook account?
Not directly.
Your personal Facebook account is used to log in and manage the setup, but WhatsApp API number limits are usually tied to the Meta Business Portfolio. So the important question is not only whether your Facebook account is old or new. The more important question is whether the business portfolio is new, verified, and eligible for more WhatsApp numbers.
For example, if you have had your personal Facebook account for many years but create a new business portfolio today, Meta may still apply new-business limits to that portfolio.
What should I do if I need several WhatsApp numbers?
If you need several WhatsApp numbers, we recommend starting with the main number you want to use first. After the first number is connected, you can check whether Meta allows additional numbers for your business portfolio.
If Meta does not allow more numbers immediately, the business may need to complete verification or wait until the account becomes eligible for a higher limit.
