The Egyptian calendar was a solar calendar, based on the Earth's orbit around the Sun. It consisted of 12 months, each lasting 30 days, with five extra days called epagomenal days added at the end of the year.
How did this calendar have 364 days? The Egyptians observed that the Sun took about 365.25 days to orbit the Earth. Their calendar year had 365 days, which meant it fell behind by one day every four years. To correct this, they added an extra day every four years, much like our modern leap year system.
Another notable calendar featuring 364 days was the Julian calendar, introduced by Julius Caesar. The Julian calendar improved upon the Roman calendar, which was often inaccurate.
